'Specialist Officers' to Tackle Violence as Milton Keynes Labour Group Responds to Incident

Keit StrammerLabour leader Sir Keir Starmer has made a strong commitment to enhancing police resources in response to recent violence and unrest. Following a COBRA meeting,

Sir Keir announced plans to deploy a "standing army of specialist officers" to support communities affected by riots and criminal activity.

These specialist officers will be on standby to address violence and provide immediate assistance where needed. "We will have a standing army of specialist officers, public duty officers, so that we will have enough to deal with this," Sir Keir stated. He also highlighted that efforts to tackle criminal behaviour, both online and offline, will be ramped up, with a focus on early identification and prosecution of offenders.

Sir Keir emphasised the gravity of the situation, stating, "This is not protest—it is pure violence, and we will not tolerate attacks on mosques or our Muslim communities." He added that his priority is to ensure public safety and address the concerns raised by the recent unrest.

Responding to questions about a possible recall of Parliament, Sir Keir confirmed that his main focus is on maintaining safety on the streets. He also addressed accusations from Reform UK about "two-tier policing," asserting that there is no disparity in how policing is conducted. "There is no two-tier policing. There is policing without fear or favour, exactly as it should be," he said.

In related local news, the Labour Group has issued a statement in response to a recent incident at a place of worship in Milton Keynes. The statement condemned the violence and reinforced the commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all communities in the area.

Meanwhile, Emily Darlington, MP for Milton Keynes Central, posted on X: "This is not reflective of our inclusive and diverse city, and I absolutely condemn any violent acts. We are an amazing city, and we will not let those who engage in this destructive behaviour damage us. #LoveMK"
