Milton Keynes Set to Become UK’s First ‘Purple City Centre’ for Purple Tuesday
In celebration of Purple Tuesday, Centre:MK are partnering with MyMiltonKeynes Business Improvement District (MyMK BID) on Tuesday, 12 November, to spotlight accessibility and inclusivity for people with both visible and hidden disabilities.
This collaboration is a significant step towards making Milton Keynes the UK’s first ‘Purple City Centre’.
Local organisations and businesses will host pop-up displays throughout centre, raising awareness about the services and support available to people with disabilities and their families. Highlights include:

- HK Hair and Wellness – Providing fully accessible hairdressing services.
- Spectrum Place & Umbrella Project – Raising awareness for autism and neurodivergent individuals.
- The Parks Trust – Showcasing efforts to make Furzton Lake more accessible.
- Camphill MK – Selling crafts made by adults with learning difficulties.
- Medical Detection Dogs – Demonstrating how dogs are trained to detect illnesses.
- MK Theatre – Highlighting accessible performances and available resources.
- Spinal Injuries Association, Headway, Carers MK, and many more organisations.
Visitors will also be treated to live performances near Door 1 by “What’s The Drama” – a local group offering creative coaching for adults with learning disabilities.
Additionally, the event will mark the launch of our newly added sensory room located at Guest Services, providing a quiet and calming space for families to take a break.
